March 9, 2009 - Community Awareness Day will be held at City Hall from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. Partipants, including Mayor Jim Walker and Miami County Chamber President, Sandy Chittum and Kurt Keifer, Miami County CASA Director, will take a tour through Peru in wheelchairs to get an idea of how accessible or not accessible Peru is. The Miami County Chamber of Commerce has been working with Harvesting Capabilities for the past year and they hope that this event will truly enable them to understand the challenges and frustrations others face on a day to day basis and then through these "experiences" to see what needs to be addressed and what needs to be done to make businesses, sidewalks, etc. easier and more accessible for those individuals that are handicapped. Mary Coppernol and Melody Edwards from Millers Merry Manor will be donating the wheelchairs.
